Dunedin Public Theater is bringing a long-held community vision one step closer to reality. Founded by Elizabeth Brinklow and Zeke Durika, this organization was created out of a shared belief that Dunedin deserves a dedicated home for the performing arts.

The idea for Dunedin Public Theater didn’t come from a single moment. It grew from years of conversation, passion, and community support. The need for a local theater has been felt by many in Dunedin, especially in a city known for its deep roots as an arts community. Elizabeth and Zeke stepped forward to help turn that collective hope into something tangible.

Dunedin Public Theater is working toward becoming a home for professional performing arts, arts education, and collaboration. The vision extends beyond performances, with plans to also support and house other creative groups such as DIFF and Progressive Arts. The goal is to create a shared space where creativity, learning, and performance can thrive together.

Choosing Dunedin was an easy decision. The city’s history, character, and ongoing support of the arts made it the perfect place to build something lasting. The theater aims to serve not just artists and audiences, but the broader local economy by drawing people into downtown and supporting surrounding businesses.

The impact they hope to leave is clear. Dunedin Public Theater is working toward becoming a long-standing gathering place for the arts while contributing meaningful economic and cultural value to the community.

So far, the progress has been strong. The business plan is complete, a feasibility study conducted by Keen Research has wrapped, and multiple fundraising events and event series have already taken place. Each step brings the vision closer to opening the doors on a true community arts hub.
